Exploring the Maya World of the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico
Led by Anthropologist Dr. Heather Teague

Arranged for Professors Ellen Barclay and Phil Krejcarek
Carroll University

This course is designed for students of varying levels to meet modern Maya people through community service projects and to learn about their ancestors. A 9-day adventure will explore the upper part of the Yucatan Peninsula visiting ruins and modern Maya villages along the way. Starting and ending in Playa del Carmen, students will explore the ruins of Coba, Chichen Itza, Ek Balam, Tulum and Yaxuna. In the ruins themselves and during seminar lectures, the students will learn intensively about ancient Maya history, mathematics, and astronomy. In the middle of the week the group will spend two nights living in the Maya village of Yaxuna, working side by side with the locals on a variety of community service projects.
